Product Details

Methyl Red is usually a lustrous purple crystal or reddish-brown powder. It is almost insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, chloroform and acetic acid. It is mainly used in acid-base titration to indicate the pH value of the solution and determine the titration endpoint through color changes.

Product Usage

Methyl Red is a classic azo-type acid-base indicator extensively used in chemical analysis and laboratory testing. In acid-base titration, it provides a sensitive color transition between pH 4.4 (red) and pH 6.2 (yellow), making it a standard reagent for volumetric analysis. In the field of microbiology, it is the essential component of the Methyl Red (MR) test within the "IMViC" battery of tests, used to differentiate enteric bacteria based on their ability to produce stable acid end products from glucose fermentation. Additionally, it is widely applied in water quality testing and acidity monitoring for various industrial formulations.
